FIELD TALK
Underground Damage Is Going the Wrong Direction — Here’s What the Numbers Say
Everybody in underground construction talks about production. Footage. Bore counts. Getting the conduit in and moving to the next shot. But the latest underground utility damage numbers are a reminder that production means nothing if we’re tearing up what’s already in the ground. Production pressure never outranks safety.
What equipment are you running — and what has it taught you?
The machine matters, but the lessons behind it matter more. Whether you work around a compact HDD rig, a maxi rig, vacuum excavation, excavators, trenchers, plows, reel trailers, or fiber placement equipment, every setup has strengths, limits, and hard-earned lessons.
Locates are not paperwork. They are survival.
Every successful bore starts before the drill ever turns. A locate ticket is the beginning of the safety process—not a substitute for field verification, potholing, communication, and good judgment. No footage or deadline is worth striking a utility or sending someone home hurt.
Welcome to Underground Truth — Real Telecom. Real Field Life.
